Drunk Man In Golf Cart Channels Inner Dale Jr. At Brickyard, Sends Several To The Hospital
IndyStar- A Noblesville man is facing criminal charges after a golf cart he was operating at the Brickyard 400 struck and hospitalized several pedestrians.
Colonious Thomas, 40, was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of a crash while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury following the crash that happened around 12:30 p.m. inside Tunnel 2 of the the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Thomas’ arrest was the only one made in or around the track this weekend, police said.
Four people were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital. Another two victims were treated for minor injuries at the Speedway’s Infield Care Center.
The conditions of those who were hospitalized were also not immediately available. The incident remains under investigation.
Not the best look for Colonious Thomas, it’s a major league botch being the only person arrested at a NASCAR event, very tough to come back from. I don’t condone his actions, but I understand his mentality. He hears the engines roaring, the cars zooming around the track, and all he wanted to do was race. Granted, you have to be pretty fucked up to cause a serious accident with a golf cart, but considering the injuries it sounds like he was trying to challenge the fastest lap time of the day.
From my brief experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I realized that if you’ve had a couple of coldies, you can’t be operating any vehicle. There are so many goddamn people walking around there, shit like this is bound to happen. Drifting around a corner like Dom Toretto and BANG, six civilians waiting in line for hot dogs; it’s unavoidable.
Let this serve as a lesson to anyone out there operating a golf cart around several other pedestrians. If you’re boozed up, don’t be going around hairpin turns like your Jimmie Johnson in the 48 car. Stick to railroading your buddies on the golf course, nothing bad could happen there, right?
